Chapter 11: Mina

The morning sunlight poured gently through the windows of my private studio, casting a soft glow on the grand piano that stood in the centre of the room. The air was filled with the delicate fragrance of jasmine, a soothing backdrop to the whirlpool of emotions that churned inside me.

I took my place at the piano, the ivory keys cool beneath my fingertips, and began to play. The melody was new, something I'd been crafting over the past few days, a musical expression of the confusion and longing that had taken root in my heart.

My fingers danced across the keys, giving life to the notes that swirled in my mind. The song was a delicate waltz, a dance between two souls caught in a game of pretence and reality. As I played, I couldn't help but think of Avery, of the way our relationship had evolved, of the raw vulnerability we'd shared.

I began to sing, my voice a soft, haunting whisper:

"Two hearts entwined, yet worlds apart,

Caught in a dance, where do we start?

Pretending to love, pretending to feel,

But the longing inside is all too real."

The words flowed from my lips, each lyric a piece of my soul, a reflection of the conflict that raged within me. Was our relationship truly just a game? A well-rehearsed act for the world to see? Or had something genuine begun to blossom, something real and profound?

"Eyes that meet, but quickly glance away,

Words unspoken, so much to say,

We play the part, we wear the mask,

But underneath, there's no holding back."

Tears pricked at my eyes as I continued to play, the melody growing more intense, more poignant. I could feel the pull of Avery, the way she'd become a part of my life, the way she'd touched my heart.

I knew that what we'd started as a charade had transformed into something more. The feelings were there, raw and unfiltered, and I could no longer deny them.

The song soon reached its climax, my voice soaring, the emotion palpable:

"Two souls caught in a dance,

Trapped between chance and circumstance,

Pretending to be, yet longing to feel,

What's make-believe and what is real."

The final notes lingered in the air, a haunting echo of my inner turmoil. I sat in silence, the weight of my emotions heavy on my chest, my mind a tangled maze of questions and uncertainty.

As I sat there, lost in thought, I knew that the answers wouldn't come easily. But I also knew that I couldn't continue to hide behind the facade.

I was still reeling from the intensity of the song when my phone buzzed, jolting me back to reality. It was Ethan. I hesitated for a moment, then answered, my voice still shaky from the emotional outpouring.

"Hey, Ethan," I greeted, trying to keep my voice steady.

"Mina! Just the starlet I wanted to talk to!" Ethan's cheery voice came through the phone, but there was a hint of concern in his tone. "How's the songwriting coming along?"

"It's... different," I admitted, biting my lip.

"Ethan, can we talk about something?", I asked anxiously.
